Dr. Melissa Rozas

Growing up, Dr. Rozas had her front teeth pulled, three sets of braces, her wisdom teeth extracted, and several cavities. So, she spent plenty of time in her dentist’s treatment chair. Fortunately, she had a great experience. So much so that it inspired her to pursue a career in dentistry! All these years later, she is passionate about providing the absolute best care to growing smiles so they genuinely look forward to coming in for their appointments!

As for her studies, Dr. Rozas attended Texas A&M University first, which is where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science. Next, she completed her dental doctorate at the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston and her pediatric dental residency in Houston at UT/Herman. However, some of her most impressive accomplishments were yet to come. Today, she is both a Fellow in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry! Furthermore, she is an active member of professional associations like the American Dental Association, the International Affiliation of Tongue-Tie Professionals, and the Texas Dental Association.

When Dr. Rozas isn’t busy helping her patients at her pediatric dental office, you’ll most likely find her with her husband and their two children. Some of her favorite things to do as a family are ski, surf, and go to Dallas Maverick games. She also enjoys volunteering, organizing continuing education for over 100 pediatric dentists, and relaxing by the beach!

Dr. Terra Compton

Over the last decade, Dr. Compton has helped countless children achieve healthier, happier smiles. Like Dr. Rozas, it was her own experience at the dentist that piqued her interest in the field. Her orthodontic treatment didn’t just improve her confidence; it improved her overall quality of life! Now, she is thrilled to be helping others experience the same, but on the other side of the treatment chair.

After obtaining her undergraduate degree at Oklahoma State University, Dr. Compton chose to pursue her doctorate at the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health. During dental school, she realized that she could combine her love for dentistry and children if she focused on pediatric dentistry. Following graduation, she underwent her Pediatric Dentistry Residency at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC and earned her Master’s in Public Health. If these accomplishments weren’t impressive enough, she also is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, certified in PALS, and an active member of professional organizations like the Greater Dallas Pediatric Dental Study Club, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and several others.

At home, Dr. Compton has two daughters, Sylvie and Lucia. She loves spending as much time with them as possible and volunteers with the Girl Scouts at her daughter’s school. Other hobbies of hers include reading, going to White Rock Lake¸ doing HIIT workouts, and trying new restaurants.

How can I make a same-day appointment with a pediatric dentist?

If you want to schedule a same-day appointment for your child – whether it’s due to a serious dental injury or a sudden opening in their schedule – the best thing to do is give us a call. Over the phone, we can learn more about your situation, take a look at our schedule, and see if we can see your little one before the end of the day. Although we typically book out weeks and months in advance, we do everything we can to accommodate nearby families, especially if one of their loved ones is struggling with a painful dental injury.

What level of education is required to be a pediatric dentist?

Before pursuing a specialty, such as pediatric dentistry, the aspiring dentist needs to first earn their undergraduate degree, get accepted to one of 67 accredited dental schools in the United States, and earn their Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or a Doctor of Dental Sciences (DDS). From there, they can pursue a residency or advanced training in pediatric dentistry to learn how to care for growing smiles specifically. Even then, their educational journey is long from over since each state requires a specific number of continuing education hours to be completed to maintain their license.

How do I get emergency dental care for my child?

First, we recommend doing what you can to assess the damage. If your child is having difficulty breathing, they’ve fractured their jaw, or they are struggling with other potentially life-threatening symptoms, then you should take them to the ER so they can get the medical attention they need. If, on the other hand, they have sustained a dental injury and no other potentially life-threatening symptoms, then you should call us right away. Not only will we schedule a time for them to come in for treatment, but we will also provide you with instructions on what to do until you both arrive at our office.
